Our story
Founded in 1985, Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA) is a licensed home care agency that provides high-quality, reliable services to people who are elderly, chronically ill, or living with disabilities.

Our commitment
In 2012, CHCA became the first home care company in New York to earn a B Corp certification. As a certified B Corp, we make a public commitment to considering the impact our decisions have on our workers, clients, community, collaborators, and the environment.
We are proud to be one of the largest cooperatives in the US, currently employing over 1600 caregivers and staff in the greater New York area.
We currently offer weekly care giver training programs in The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island that are completely free. Since opening, CHCA has provided free training to over 10,000 prospective Home Health Aides.

Timeline
CHCA: A legacy of care
Here are some key milestones that have shaped our story, from our humble beginnings to our latest achievements.
1985
Cooperative Health Care Associates is born
Our cooperative is incorporated in The Bronx with 12 home health aids as our founding members
2002
Unionizing our workforce
In 2002, CHCA signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with 1199SEIU, unionizing its workforce.
2007
Labor-Management Committee
In 2007, CHCA worked collaboratively with leaders of 1199SEIU to develop the first Labor-Management Committee (LMC) in home care.
The LMC was established to prepare more home care workers for leadership responsibilities in our cooperative, strengthen the working partnership between CHCA and 1199SEIU, and serve as a model for collaboration between 1199SEIU and home care agency executives.
2012
B Corp Certification
In 2012, CHCA became the first home care company to earn a B Corp certification.
As a certified B Corp, we make a public commitment to considering the impact our decisions have on our employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment.
2017
Certified Employee-Owned
In 2017, CHCA became a founding member of Certified Employee-Owned (EO), an organization dedicated to building an employee-owned economy.
Certified EO works to create a future where employee ownership is seen as one of the defining aspects of great business, and employee-owned will be synonymous with high quality, great customer service, and well-paying, stable jobs.
Through Certified EO, CHCA is part of a movement promoting the benefits of employee ownership to employees, customers, the community, and state and local governments.
2026 and onward
Serving our community
CHCA now employs more than 1,600 staff members and continues to offer top quality training to keep serving our community.
